Waterline tile
The horizontal band where water meets plaster. Scales fastest. Usually fixable with bead blasting, no tile removal needed.
A scaled waterline, a cracked step tile, or a loose bench tile drags the whole pool down. It's hard to find a company you can fully trust to pick the right cleaning method. Adams Pool & Spa handles pool tile repair in Long Beach on waterline, step, bench, and spa tile lines.
Long Beach pools scale faster than inland pools. The cause is hard water combined with coastal mineral content. Calcium precipitates on the tile face every time water evaporates.
Customers often come to us saying the pool hasn't looked this good in years. The scaling creeps up quietly. Each swim season leaves a thicker white ring at the waterline.
On shaded tile or textured surfaces, the scaling can etch the glaze if left too long. Naples Island and Belmont Shore pools also see salt-air deposits on coping edges.

Tile on horizontal swim surfaces. Loose or cracked tile here is a slip hazard. We reset, rebond, and match when possible.

In-ground spa tile lines and spillover edges. Faster scaling from hotter water and higher calcium saturation. Bead blasting usually works.

The pool edge where the deck meets the shell. Coping joints fail before the tile does. We re-caulk with Deck-O-Seal and reset loose caps.

Decorative glass, stone, and mosaic tile. Needs a gentler method to protect the glaze. Hand cleaning or low-pressure bead blasting only.

Full waterline or section replacement when the tile is cracked through or the substrate has failed. Matched to adjacent material when available.
We check tile material, glaze condition, and how deep the calcium has bonded. Glass and mosaic need gentler treatment.
Magnesium sulfate or glass-bead media strips calcium without etching the tile face. It's our first method on most Long Beach pools.
Acid etches softer glazes. We use it selectively, only when bead blasting doesn't reach the scale depth.
A surface sealer slows the next calcium buildup. Works on most ceramic and porcelain tile.
Most tile companies in Long Beach treat pool tile as cosmetic. Loose tile on a step or bench isn't cosmetic. It's a slip-and-fall risk.
Others would have probably charged you only for the waterline clean. We check every tile surface you stand on. Steps, benches, swim-out edges, and spa spillovers all get tested for bond.
Loose tile gets reset with pool-grade thin-set. Cracked tile gets replaced. The safety check adds about 15 minutes to a visit and catches problems before a guest slips.
We don't post Adams Pool & Spa pricing on the website, every pool's a little different. The dollar ranges below are the Long Beach market benchmarks published by independent home-services researchers, not our own rates. Final Adams numbers go on a written quote after the diagnostic.
Full waterline calcium removal on standard residential pools. One to two visits depending on scale depth.
Loose step, bench, or waterline tile reset with color-matched grout. Includes safety check on all swim surfaces.
Custom quote. Waterline or decorative tile replacement when bead blasting won't bring the finish back. Matched to adjacent tile when available.
We've seen how salt air, marine layer, and hard water wear coastal pools differently from inland pools. Belmont Shore corrodes pump seals on a different timeline than Bixby Knolls scales tile lines.
Long Beach coastal pools fail faster than inland for predictable reasons. We chase the cause, not just the symptom, on every visit, so the same fault doesn't come back next quarter.
Jandy Certified, Pentair Expert Installer, and NPT Lifetime-Warranty Partner. Three accreditations issued by the equipment makers themselves, not self-claims. Warranty claims pass without a fight because the manufacturer sees our install history.
Every diagnostic ends with a line-item quote: parts, labor, and a repair-vs-replace recommendation when the gear is past 8 years. Nothing gets replaced until you see the price.
Shaft seals, heater ignitors, salt cells, and O-rings ride on the truck. Most repairs close on the first visit instead of a callback week.
We built the pool next door, repaired the heater two blocks over, and run weekly service down the street. You don't re-vet a contractor every time something breaks.

Bead blasting for most Long Beach pools. Magnesium sulfate or glass-bead media strips calcium scale from the tile face without etching the glaze. Acid washing can work on heavy scale but it can also etch softer tile glazes, especially on older pools. We inspect tile material and scale depth before recommending a method. Bead blasting is our first pick on most calls.
Sometimes. If the original tile line is still in production, a close match is usually possible. Older tile patterns, discontinued colors, or imported decorative tile can be harder. We tell you what will match and what will show before work starts. For partial waterline replacement, we try to place new tile at corners or less visible sections when exact matches aren't available.
Every 2 to 3 years for most pools. Long Beach's hard water plus coastal mineral content builds calcium at the tile line faster than inland pools. Spa tile scales even faster because of hotter water and higher mineral saturation. If you're already on weekly service, we flag scaling during visits before it deepens.
Yes. Loose tile on a horizontal swim surface is a slip-and-fall risk. We check every tile contact surface during an assessment, not just the waterline. Loose tile gets reset with pool-grade thin-set. Cracked tile that can't be reset gets replaced.
Yes, and it's usually the right move. The pool is already drained for resurfacing, the surfaces are exposed, and tile work costs less when it's part of the resurfacing scope. See our pool resurfacing page for the full scope.
Waterline bead blasting on a standard residential pool takes 1 to 2 days depending on scale depth. Step or bench tile reset takes half a day. Full waterline tile replacement takes 3 to 5 days including grout cure. We give you the downtime estimate before work starts.
Yes. Spa tile work follows the same sequence as pool tile work. Spa spillover edges and seat tile are common scaling points. We don't work on above-ground or portable spas because the parts and access are different.
Glazed porcelain is the most scale-resistant tile we see in Long Beach. Glass tile looks great but holds calcium more visibly. Stone coping looks natural but needs sealing every few years against salt air. We'll walk you through the trade-offs before you pick.

Tile sits between plaster and skimmer; alkalinity drives the calcium scale we remove.
The interior finish coat on a gunite pool, traditionally white marble plaster. Modern variants include color quartz and pebble aggregate. Lifespan is 8 to 15 years before replastering is needed.
The wall-mounted basket that pulls floating debris off the pool surface before it sinks. Emptied on every weekly cleaning visit.
Total alkalinity is the buffering capacity of pool water against pH swings. Held between 80 and 120 ppm, it stops chemistry from rising or falling on every dose.
